The Society of Colonial Wars in the State of New York has established the Renwick Washington Hurry Scholarship, available to daughters of members of the Society, for undergraduate university education. The scholarship will be funded by the Hurry Memorial Fund, established in 1961 by Mr. and Mrs. Stephen D. Fuller, in memory of Mrs. Fuller’s brother, Renwick Washington Hurry a long-time Warrior, who had joined our Society in 1942.
The award provides funds for up to all four years of college education, and may be used for tuition, room and board, and associated educational expenses.
Awards are granted in amounts up to a maximum total of $40,000 per awardee, payable in equal installments of up to a maximum of $10,000 at the beginning of each of the student’s four years of college, conditioned on continued attendance. The award will be granted “based more on character than on academic achievement”.
An application may be requested of the Society by emailing the Society’s Executive Director, Diane Montgomery, at office@colonialwarsny.org.
Applications from entering Fall freshman are due April 15th, with awards made on or before May 30th. A Society member who has a daughter who might be eligible for the award, but who is not going to enter college until the next Fall semester should advise the Society in a brief note of his daughter’s intention to apply the following year.
