Lake George Battlefield Park Marker Dedication
September 7 @ 12:00 pm
Join us at the Lake George Battlefield Park for the Dedication of a Marker to Unknown Combatants!
In 1931, the remains of four unknown combatants were found while the State was building a highway, and reburied in the Park, near the actual location where they died on 8 September 1755 during the Bloody Morning Scout. The New York Society decided to donate a marker to honor their memory.
The elegant inscription written by past SCWNY Governor Richard Vietor is inspired by that of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Past Governor General Neuhauser will perform the Broken Arrow Ceremony and Chaplain General Montgomery will say a formal prayer.
